Potionomics has remained one of my favorite small business simulators for the last couple of years thanks to its clever blend of deck-building, management simulation, witty dialogue, and fantastic character design. While the game was excellent when it received its last update nearly two years ago, developer Voracious Games has fans giddy with another free update that includes a pile of fan-requested features and quality-of-life improvements.
The update introduces two new difficulty options that allow you to tailor the gameplay for a more chill or intense experience and an endless mode you can use after completing the main storyline. However, you may want to consider starting a new save file — the impressively animated characters have been improved with the introduction of full voiceovers for each of their respective story beats. The developers have also made the game more friendly for handheld users with the addition of controller support.
Voracious Games has also added a “Free Love” mode, which lets you unleash your desire for unchecked, queer-as-hell romance rather than remain locked to a single member of your community. Launching alongside the free update is Potionomics’ first piece of DLC, the $4.99 Boss Finn Content Pack that adds a new relationship path with the anthropomorphic megalodon, Boss Finn.
In Potionomics, you’ll split your time between purchasing ingredients, brewing potions, building relationships, and haggling with the locals, all while attempting to keep your business afloat and your stress in check. It’s an awesome next game for fans of titles like Bear and Breakfast, Potion Permit, or Moonstone Island.
