The Ontario Hockey League’s Barrie Colts are marking their 30th anniversary with a new alternate jersey.
The Colts unveiled the jerseys on their website and social media platforms on Wednesday, September 17. They’ll wear them at select home games during the 2024-25 OHL regular season, starting with their home opener on Saturday, September 28, against the North Bay Battalion.
The jerseys have a white base, with the Colts’ 30th anniversary logo on the chest. The anniversary logo consists of the Colts’ usual snorting, stickhandling horse logo inside a yellow circle. Outside that circle is a larger navy blue circle with “BARRIE COLTS” written in white at the top and the years 1995 and 2025 at the bottom. A large number 30 in a gold block font appears at the bottom of the roundel.
The shoulders of the jersey are navy blue with a yellow outline, while the collar is yellow. The years “1995-2025” adorn the back collar, while a white insert at the front of the collar has a green shamrock inside.
The shamrock motif carries over to the yellow stripes around the sleeves and waist, which have a tonal shamrock pattern. Those stripes are flanked by narrower navy blue stripes.
It’s unclear from Wednesday’s announcement what the significance of the shamrocks is. But the Colts’ primary logo features horseshoes both as a container for the horse and on the horse’s sleeve, and the shamrock is another symbol of good luck. The Colts also host an annual St. Patrick’s Day Game, which usually comes with special edition green jerseys and a shamrock replacing the horseshoe in the logo on the chest.
Numbers on the sleeves and back are navy blue with yellow outlines and are set in a block font. Names on the back are one-color navy blue.
Photos from Wednesday’s announcement show the jerseys paired with blue helmets, pants and gloves, all with yellow accents. None of the photos show the socks that will be worn with the jerseys.
The Colts’ regular home and road jerseys feature piping all the way down the arms, along with partial blue, yellow red and white stripes around each arm.
The Barrie Colts joined the OHL in 1995 after previously competing at lower level of junior hockey in Ontario. They won the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions in 1999-2000 and went all the way to the final of the Memorial Cup that season, losing to the Rimouski Oceanic. Notable Colts alumni include Aaron Ekblad, Alex Pietrangelo and Mark Scheifele.
