October Prime Day is right around the corner, with some great early deals already available. But there’s also plenty of deals to take advantage of before the two-day sales event kicks off on Oct. 8.
The story of a boy with a vivid imagination and his best friend (a stuffed tiger, naturally) defined many a childhood — and has served as a wildly relevant comfort during some of our hardest collective years. Both discounted collections feature every Calvin and Hobbes cartoon that appeared in syndication, which ran from 1985 until Bill Watterson’s retirement at the start of 1996.
These collections are sure to be a cherished treat for long-time fans, but also a great way to dive into the beloved series if you’re someone who has yet has experienced the joy that is Calvin and Hobbes.
If you aren’t quite ready to commit to the full series, the new Calvin and Hobbes Portable Compendiums have double-digit discounts right now: Both typically available for $22, Volume 1 is currently on sale for $17 (25% off) and Volume 2 is an even better steal at $13 (42% off). And if you’re saying to yourself right now, “Listen here, Polygon, I already have both volumes, thank-you-very-much,“ well guess what? Volume 3 just came out and it’s on sale for $19.79 (10% off). You’re welcome!
For those that already have this collection and are looking to put more Bill Watterson on their bookshelves, we recommend checking out The Mysteries, which is also currently on sale for 42% off. The Mysteries is a “fable for grown-ups” and a collaboration between Watterson — who came out of retirement for this project — and illustrator John Kascht. If you need to know more, the pair released a rather charming video last year about their work together.
