Ahead of their season kickoff this weekend, New York City’s newest professional soccer team gave fans a sneak peek this week of what they’ll be wearing when they make their debut on the pitch.
The women’s team for Brooklyn FC unveiled their inaugural home kits — made by Diaza Football — on Tuesday, August 27, four days ahead of their USL Super League season opener against Carolina Ascent FC on Saturday, August 31.
Perhaps borrowing from another iconic NYC team, the dark brown shirt features limestone pinstripes all over. The color scheme is a nod to the brownstone brick found throughout the borough of Brooklyn and to the limestone used to build the Brooklyn Bridge.
In between the pinstripes are tonal “BKFC” wordmarks. The V-neck polo collar is limestone with a dark brown stripe. The sleeve cuffs are evenly split between dark brown and limestone, and the club’s primary crest — a gothic-inspired B with the arched stone towers of the Brooklyn Bridge making up parts of the letterform — sits on the left chest. The logo of sponsor Liquid Death appears on the chest in white.
Manufacturer Diaza is a brand started by former footballer Diego Hurtado, who was born in Colombia and played with numerous clubs in the United States, including New York Cosmos, Las Vegas Lights FC and FC Milwaukee Torrent. “Diaza” is a Colombian term meaning “passion, endurance and hard effort.”
Brooklyn FC is one of eight teams taking part in the inaugural USL Super League season. They’ll play their home games at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn, which is also home to the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets in the South Atlantic League.
Brooklyn FC’s men’s team is slated to start playing in the USL Championship in 2025.
