No, the Hunger Games aren’t over just yet. There’s a fifth installment in the series coming out next year, and it’s another prequel, following 2020’s The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Sunrise on the Reaping revisits the world of Panem 24 years before the events of the original Hunger Games, whose film adaptation famously starred Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. It starts on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, AKA the Second Quarter Quell.
While the book doesn’t come out until March 18, 2025, fans can already pre-order the hardcover Sunrise on the Reaping at Amazon. Even better, the next Hunger Games book is currently on sale for just $22. And yes, there will be a film adaptation of this one too, to be released on November 20, 2026!
“With Sunrise on the Reaping, I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few,’” Collins says in a Scholastic press release. “The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.”
A special edition of the fifth Hunger Games book is also available for pre-order at Target. This version of Sunrise on the Reaping will include “bonus content”, but the details of these additions have yet to be revealed.
